BMDC rules first

MBBS Abroad for Bangladeshi Students

Every year Bangladeshi students spend 40–60 lakh taka on a foreign MBBS and come home unable to practise. The reason is always the same: they chose the country before reading the BM&DC rules.

What decides whether a foreign MBBS is worth it?

Not the university's brochure — the Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BM&DC). To practise in Bangladesh with a foreign medical degree you must satisfy BM&DC's requirements, which include obtaining an Eligibility Certificate and passing the Registration Qualifying Examination — BM&DC ran the MBBS Registration Qualifying Examination in April 2026 and publishes results and internship notices for it. Sequence matters: the Eligibility Certificate is a pre-admission step in intent, so students who enrol first and ask questions later are the ones who get stuck. Before you pay anything, verify on BM&DC's own site that your intended college is acceptable and that you meet the eligibility criteria for your admission year.

The BM&DC sequence — do this in order

  1. 1

Read BM&DC's requirements for the Eligibility Certificate

Confirm the current criteria on bmdc.org.bd for your admission year, not from an agent's PDF.

  2. 2

Verify the specific college, not just the country

Recognition is institution-level. 'China is recognised' is not a valid answer — the college and its teaching language must be acceptable.

  3. 3

Apply for the Eligibility Certificate before you commit money

This is the step that protects you. An agent who tells you to skip it is protecting their commission, not your career.

  4. 4

Keep every academic and clinical record

Transcripts, attendance, clinical rotation logs and internship certificates are all needed later for registration.

  5. 5

Plan for the Registration Qualifying Examination

Budget time and money for the RQE and the internship requirement after you return.

  6. 6

Decide your long-term licence path early

If you intend to practise in the UK, US or Australia instead, the exam path (PLAB/USMLE/AMC) and the acceptable degree list differ from Bangladesh's.

Destination comparison for Bangladeshi students

Use this to shortlist, then verify every figure with the specific university and BM&DC. Costs move every session and quoted 'packages' from agents routinely exclude hostel, food, visa and coaching.

We deliberately do not publish specific tuition figures here. MBBS pricing is where agents do the most damage, and any number we quote would be stale within a session. Ask us and we will point you to the university's own published fee page.

The five agent patterns that end careers

  • "Eligibility Certificate is not needed, do it later." This is the single most expensive lie in the industry.
  • All-inclusive 'package' with no itemisation. If tuition, hostel, food, visa, insurance and coaching are not listed separately with the university's own figures, assume the difference is commission.
  • Guaranteed admission without documents. Genuine medical admission is never guaranteed before verification.
  • Pressure to pay cash or to a personal account. Pay the university, through traceable channels, with a receipt in the university's name.
  • "You can practise anywhere with this degree." Licensing is country-by-country and exam-based. Nobody can promise you a licence.

MBBS Abroad — Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a BM&DC eligibility certificate before MBBS abroad?
BM&DC's published requirements include an Eligibility Certificate, and treating it as a pre-admission step is the safe approach. Confirm the current requirement directly on bmdc.org.bd for your admission year before paying any fees.
Is there an exam after returning from a foreign MBBS?
Yes. BM&DC conducts the Registration Qualifying Examination for MBBS — it held the exam in April 2026 and publishes results and related internship notices. Plan for the exam and the internship requirement as part of your total timeline and cost.
Which country is best for MBBS for Bangladeshi students?
The best country is the one where a BM&DC-acceptable college teaches genuinely in English with real clinical exposure and you can afford the total, not the package price. India and China dominate for proximity and recognition; the rest depend heavily on the individual college.
Is MBBS abroad cheaper than a private medical college in Bangladesh?
Frequently not, once you count hostel, food, flights, visa renewals, RQE coaching and an extra year lost. Compare totals across the full duration, not tuition against tuition.
Can I practise in the UK or US with a foreign MBBS?
Only by passing that country's licensing route — PLAB and GMC registration for the UK, USMLE and ECFMG certification for the US — and only if your medical school is acceptable to them. Verify your school appears on their accepted lists before enrolling.
Does a SAARC scholarship cover MBBS in India?
Usually no. Indian universities that give Bangladeshi students substantial scholarships for engineering and business commonly exclude MBBS from those schemes. Assume MBBS is full price unless the university states otherwise in writing.
